The article systematizes the modern methodological foundations for the scientific and theoretical analysis of literary texts and substantiates a cognitive-integrative model that combines traditional poetic analysis with the principles of cognitive poetics and narratology. The research problem lies in the fact that an analysis limited merely to listing literary devices cannot reveal their role in plot and character construction, the narrative distribution of information, or their function in guiding the readerʼs perception. The novelty of the research lies in studying the structural, narrative, and cognitive layers of a literary text as a single functional system. The methodological basis draws upon the principles of cognitive poetics, conceptual metaphor theory, mental spaces theory, cognitive narratology, predictive processing theory, and affective-cognitive stylistics. The analysis was conducted using the material of Ray Bradburyʼs novel “Fahrenheit 451.” The opening sentence of the novel, the “book is a weapon” metaphor, the semantic transformation of the fire symbol, plot events, the concepts of “equality” and “slowness,” as well as its stylistic organization were examined. As a result, it was found that a poetic device simultaneously organizes a narrative event, expresses the characterʼs mental model, and manages the readerʼs expectations. Based on this, the “poetic structure – narrative function – cognitive activation – expectation – analytical direction” model was proposed. The results of the study can be utilized in teaching literary theory and literary analysis in higher education.
