This article presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of two types of magical elements that manifest as a distinctive rivoyae phenomenon in childrenʼs literature of the second half of the twentieth century. The magical element is selected as the primary object of inquiry, functioning as a central poetic device within the boundary genres of the period, those situated between fantasy and realism. The comparative analysis is conducted along several key criteria: determining the ontological status of the magical element and its nature within the fictional world; the character of its interaction with the protagonist and the role of that interaction in rivoyae dynamics; the system of functional loads within the overall structure of the text; the scope, boundaries, and limitations of magical action; its role in the moral and existential formation of the protagonist; and, finally, the ratio of realistic and supernatural strata and their contribution to the semantic enrichment of the literary text. The study demonstrates that, despite significant differences in the cultural-historical contexts and generic traditions of the works under analysis, both artistic systems construct a structurally analogous model. Within this model, magic operates not as an absolute and boundless form of power, but as a mirror that reveals the protagonistʼs inner capacities, vulnerabilities, and moral potential, that is, as a symbolic instrument directing the hero toward self-knowledge and autonomous decision-making. This approach establishes a new methodological foundation for understanding how magic functions didactically and psychologically within childrenʼs literature.
