This article examines the lexical-semantic features of football terms in English and Uzbek from a comparative perspective. The main aim of the study is to classify terms used in football discourse according to their semantic content, nominative function, sphere of use and functional characteristics, as well as to identify the ways in which they are expressed in the two languages. The article summarizes major theoretical approaches to terminological classification and analyzes football terms on the basis of nominative, procedural, regulatory, result-statistical and strategic criteria. The research employs comparative, descriptive, lexical-semantic and componential methods of analysis. The findings demonstrate that English football terms are often concise, internationally recognizable and relatively standardized, whereas their Uzbek equivalents are formed through borrowing, calquing, descriptive phrases and parallel variants. The study contributes to defining the internal semantic field of football terminology, systematizing Uzbek equivalents of English football terms and clarifying norms of term usage in sports discourse. The results may be useful for terminology studies, translation practice, lexicography and the teaching of specialized vocabulary in comparative linguistics.
