THE PROPORTION OF SOCIO-CULTURAL CODES AND LINGUISTIC WORLDVIEW IN THE WORK OF THEODORE DREISERʼS “AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY”

This article analyzes the discourse of the American Dream and the concept of transnational identity through a linguocultural approach based on one of the prominent works of twentieth -century American literature the novel “An American Tragedy” by Theodore Dreiser. The main objective of the study is to provide an artistic interpretation of the relationship between the individual and society and to reveal the protagonistʼs inner crisis through linguistic units. The research employs linguocultural, comparative -historical, and literary analysis methods t o examine how national and individual identity are represented artistically and how the concept of the “American Dream” is manifested within the text. The formation of transnational identity in the image of Clyde Griffiths is analyzed in the context of his desire to adapt to the social environment and his aspiration for material prosperity. The findings demonstrate that the linguocultural units in the novel reveal not only the protagonistʼs character but also the socio- cultural codes of the era. The results of the study may serve as a theoretical resource in the fields of linguoculturology, translation studies, and literary studies.
